Distributions (2025)

Site-specific video installation for Platform 5:55, on the digital billboards at Frederiksberg Centret, Copenhagen.

Sept 1 2025 – Sept 8 2025, Platform 5:55, Frederiksberg Centret, Copenhagen, Denmark.

Distributions was created specifically for the digital billboards in the shopping mall Frederiksberg Centret. The exhibition of Distributions was also a pilot project for a new exhibition platform that presents video art on all digital billboards in Frederiksberg Centret for 5 minutes every day. Platform 5:55 is founded by Rebekka Bohse Meyer and myself.

Distributions is an exploration of inheritance and algebra. The piece examines how an inheritance is divided, as a mathematical and emotional equation. The mathematical discipline of algebra originally emerged as a method for calculating how an inheritance should be distributed among family members. In Distributions, inheritance and mathematics are weaved together in a visual collage of images, diagrams, and words. In the middle of the Frederiksberg Centret-mall, we are surrounded by objects that change hands – things that are bought, used, and passed on – as gifts, as waste, as heirlooms. What does it mean to inherit something, and how are things connected across families, time, and place?
