I was invited to create the stage design and video projections for Brian Petuch’s ambitious contemporary opera Portrait and a Dream.
The American chamber orchestra Contemporaneous premiered this opera on the lives of Jackson Pollock and Lee Krasner at Irondale in downtown Brooklyn in the fall of 2021.
Taking the canvas as the conceptual framework, the stage design consisted of two similar screens: one on the floor, and one on the wall. Using live-streamed video, the actions on the floor was mirrored on the wall, and vice versa. The video projections also at moments filled the entire rustic wall of the Irondale theater.
